Archives for the month of: September, 2011

The first compilation from FreeForm features some of the freshest and most innovative talent in the worldwide beats scene including Mndsgn, Infinite Potentials, Sir Froderick, Prof Logik etc. From the jazz infused production of Jesse Futerman, to the post-Dilla swagger of Fitz Ambro$e: Waveform documents the diversity and ever evolving sound of instrumental beats. Pre-order now, releases 30 September 2011.

Here’s a few of our favorite discoveries from the past week…

A mysterious soundcloud producer named YAYAY drops one beat on his account that blows a lot of beats out of the water and has everyone buzzin, have a listen for yourself…

A Mr Muthafuckin eXquire video for “The Song That Never Ends Pt.2” feat Heron. The beat is produced by Company Flow off of the instrumental album Little Johnny from the Hospital. Download his free mixtape “Lost in Translation” here.

Low Leaf a Los Angeles singer and producer, who plays harp and piano drops a new video. A live performance of “June Gloom”. Low Leaf is set to release a new project this coming week.

Thank you to AL_PD, Rusty Robot and Mark II …

10th Letter an experimental/electronic/beat producer from South Carolina drops 14 new tracks via Soundcloud in preparation for an upcoming release due out by the end of the year. The new tracks are totally separate from the upcoming album, “its all a bunch of stuff that happened while working on the album and some older stuff too.”

Ichiro an electronic beat producer from Tokyo, Japan drops a lovely 36 track instrumental album (with hidden tracks included) entitled LoopShu. It is for sale but there are two free tracks for download on the bandcamp page. Ichiro has a very impressive mastered sound to his works. The sound is full and sophisticated; lush and floaty melodies with crisp drums and electronic beeps and blips.

“Toil & Trouble,” as inspired by the phenomenal Tim Burton Retrospective at LACMA thru Halloween; is an attempt to evoke some of the very disparate forces at play and playful in Mr. Burton’s oeuvre. Here is a gentleman that has crossed every creative boundary with iconic style, so a daunting task indeed to try and reveal his unique spirit in song, but with much joy in my attempt. Deciding to have this mix be a sort of counter-soundtrack for the installation, as well a meditation on his considerable style. You’ll find ancient and classic tracks with some modern musics from the likes of Shlohmo, Airhead, Flying Lotus with MatthewDavid, and much much more. I do so hope you enjoy, or at least revel in the airs solely Tim Burton.” – Daedelus

New video for Little Dragon’s “Brush the Heat” off of their newest album Ritual Union. Check out our post from July 2011 to listen to the album in its entirety.

Here is video for Brush the Heat, by my Dad Yusuke Nagano.
A few years ago, he started doing animations for the first time and made a animated video for Swimming on Machine Dreams. This time he filmed us goofing around in front of a green screen in the basement of his office. So together with his creative partner in crime Olga, who I know worked real hard to make this work without budget n all, they created this video as always surreal n funny. We are so happy to have his expression in the mix! ThankU Dad!!

On Thursday June 2, 2011 at The Little Bar in South Philadelphia; Mndsgn, Swarvy, Sir Froderick, Knxwledge, Josh Hey and Stainless Steele came together to play a live show that they called “Blasphemous Jazz”. The concept for the show was that each artist would produce the re-workings of Miles Davis’ ‘Bitches Brew’ album. Each producer played a live set which included their Bitches Brew session. The show was hosted/Emceed by Stainless Steele. This release is the studio version of what was performed live that night. /// Free Download…

The tags on the bandcamp page read “african, electronic, art, channeled, universal, energy, multi-dimensional, sounds, otherworldly, rhythms, spiritual, vibrations, Philadelphia”. We could write up a more detailed summary about this release but the adjectives used in the tags are sufficiently poetic and leaves room for imagination, just like the music.

From the artist  – “Special thanks to COLD SELTZERS, Sir Froderick, Josh Hey, Mndsgn, Knxwledge, Darryl Deleon Lopez, Markus Swarvy, and all the other Philly Cats surviving the auditory struggle… Hold it down.”
