Jonti may not be a familiar name just yet but that’s no reflection of his resume. Multi-instrumentalist, arranger, producer, and vocalist, Jonti, began assembling music after his departure from South Africa to Australia in 1999. Spending countless hours studying records like they were books, processing each song, this became Jonti’s music school, testing his theories on a 4-track recorder.
If you love music, eventually you meet others who do too. In the past year, through different projects, Jonti has recorded with Mark Ronson, Santigold, Sean Lennon and the Dap-Kings, as well as producer John Agnello (Sonic Youth, Dinosaur Jr., Kurt Vile). Ironically, for Jonti’s solo album, he decided to purposely go the opposite route, doing everything himself, start to finish.
Although Jonti describes his music as simple, label head Peanut Butter Wolf sees it as anything but that. “I understand the pop references because his music is so catchy, but the arrangements blew me away. I couldn’t figure out how the hell he did what he did. That he did it all on his own at such an early age kinda scared me. I knew right away I needed to add him to the roster.” You will soon understand why Stones Throw is proud to present it’s first Australian signing Jonti as a new member of the family.

Prof.Logik an experimental hip hop producer from South Carolina delivers the raw Dust Fragmentation tape. Structured for a cassette tape release Dust Fragmentation offers dirty drums, raw basslines and lovely and lush synth work. The combination works beautifully like sweet and sour in fine cuisine.
from Prof.Logik bandcamp – “This is a hard copy cassette release. If you only want a digital copy its $5.00 just send me a message (dexx79@hotmail.com). Cassettes are not ready but you get a digital copy right away!”
Zenios is a producer from Springfield Ohio. Zenios’ sound could be described as electronic meditation in deep space. His influences often stem from Japanese anime, video games and the place in your mind between being asleep and awake. Zenios has released three albums, Ill Meditation, Mercury Crimson Dream and Pure Meditation; he also released Zeniosphere Slow Rotation Mix 1 & 2. The video post is a new collaboration between Zenios and two MCs, Stainless Steele and Maf Maddix. Look out for more from them in the near future.

Strata-East Records is an American record label specialising in jazz which was founded in 1971 by Stanley Cowell and Charles Tolliver. Gil Scott-Heron recorded his 1974 album Winter in America with Brian Jackson for Strata-East. “The Bottle” featured on the album, was a popular single. This album stands as one of the label’s most well-known recordings. The label released over 60 albums in the 1970s, several by artists including Clifford Jordan, Pharoah Sanders, and Shirley Scott. Bill Lee, father of Spike Lee, was involved in numerous releases. Many of the label’s releases, however obscure, are hailed as fine examples of 1970s Post-Bop, Spiritual Jazz, and Afro-Jazz. On the Madlib album Yesterdays Universe, there is a tribute song to Strata-East, entitled “Two for Strata-East”.
Here is a mix comprising mostly of Strata East pieces there is no tracklist presently but we can say that it features tracks from Henry Franklin, Rudolph Johnson and Shamek Farrah…
