Here is a gentleman that has crossed every creative boundary with iconic style, so a daunting task indeed to try and reveal his unique spirit in song, but with much joy in my attempt. From the artist: “Sine N’ Moon is a collection of songs I made before i started to work on Twirligig. It starts with the first song i ever recorded called ’Saturday Night Songs’. While Gathering around a 4-track on a Saturday night doesn’t exactly paint the perfect adolescence out of a Skins script (Ukulele solo’s don’t help either) It does show the role and beautiful friendship I’ve had with music since i left South Africa. As Drake prepares to release his Sophomore album “Take Care” several new tracks have been leaked one way or another online. Strata-East Records is an American record label specialising in jazz which was founded in 1971 by Stanley Cowell and Charles Tolliver. Gil Scott-Heron recorded his 1974 album Winter in America with Brian Jackson for Strata-East. “The Bottle” featured on the album, was a popular single. This album stands as one of the label’s most well-known recordings. The label released over 60 albums in the 1970s, several by artists including Clifford Jordan, Pharoah Sanders, and Shirley Scott. Bill Lee, father of Spike Lee, was involved in numerous releases. Many of the label’s releases, however obscure, are hailed as fine examples of 1970s Post-Bop, Spiritual Jazz, and Afro-Jazz. On the Madlib album Yesterdays Universe, there is a tribute song to Strata-East, entitled “Two for Strata-East”.
Here is a mix comprising mostly of Strata East pieces there is no tracklist presently but we can say that it features tracks from Henry Franklin, Rudolph Johnson and Shamek Farrah…
